20 million people got insurance for the first time. There’s a wide gulf between being insured and actually being able to get care. A lot of people who are now insured under Obamacare are in fact underinsured, meaning they don’t have adequate coverage. The number was somewhere in the realm of 80 million last I checked. Many are paying premiums for plans with deductibles so high that it’s functionally no different from being uninsured in all cases except catastrophic medical emergencies.
People are still dying and losing limbs from rationing insulin. People are going bankrupt from medical expenses. I don’t call that progress. And citing that statistic to people who are suffering under the current system and know for a fact that their lives haven’t improved is an example of precisely the kind of delusion I’m talking about.
