Crime didn’t drop in New York because of broken windows policing. Crime dropped in New York because crime was dropping everywhere in the 90s. Correlation isn’t causation.

And if you want to claim that crime has “spiked” or “skyrocketed” in places with reform-minded prosecutors, you have to also 1) look at data for comparable places that have tough on crime policies 2) consider what the long-term trends are because there are dramatic increases/decreases in crime often that have zero to do with enforcement strategies.
Science is about testing what people call “common sense” and it more often than not doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.
