Don’t qualify your opposition to war

By saying “Well Iran is a brutal regime, but…” you make the hawks’ case for them

Following the recent air strike that killed top Iranian military official Qassem Soleimani, everybody’s weighing in. Liberal reactions have followed a consistent pattern. Politicians and pundits are attempting to thread the needle between acknowledging what a bad guy Soleimani was while condemning the action itself as a provocation that brings the United States one step closer to war.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s remark on the subject is fairly typical.

Warren and others making similar statements are trying to shield themselves from political attack by prefacing their comments this way, but in doing so they are falling into the same trap that has snared liberal politicians for decades.

While I can understand the desire to be consistent in one’s principles, do you know who doesn’t give a damn about moral or political consistency? The war hawks champing at the bit to appease the hungry god of American empire with…
