Hi Lori,
Davis greatly overstates the efficacy of his approach. If you’ve seen the documentary, you’ll remember that he claims “there is no more Klan in Maryland.”
That’s not true by a long shot. The Confederate White Knights, one of the larger KKK groups, with branches in 11 states, is currently based in Maryland. Davis knows this because he is friends with its current leader Richard Preston, but he continues to make the claim that the Maryland Klan is no more because it’s a huge part of his brand.
If you’ll read my story, you’ll see that Preston was arrested for firing off a gun at Charlottesville, and Davis’ testimony likely played a role in getting his charges reduced.
Many of these people are downright sociopathic and more than happy to use someone like Davis. Racism will never be defeated by asking the hated to make concessions to the haters.
Even if Davis’ intentions are good, it’s a delusion and he ultimately does more harm, especially by insulting and condescending to activists who are out there actually taking the only approach that is effective against racism: fighting it.
