I think your framing is sort of anti-feminist. You say “what happened” as if Warren were passive and just at the mercy of forces around her rather than a shrewd political actor with agency.

I’m not going to argue that we don’t live in a sexist society or that women don’t face unique challenges as a result. However, it wasn’t sexism that did Warren in.

She was a woman in a sexist society last fall when she was briefly the favorite. She was still a woman when she shifted to the center on M4A in an effort to differentiate herself from Bernie Sanders and take votes from moderate candidates.

All the other variables stayed fixed, but she suffered politically as a result of her choice. She’d probably be winning right now if she had stayed the course.
