It’s mind boggling that liberal moderates think that Trump was the one who somehow ruined the flag, as if America, a country founded on the dispossession of one race and the hyper exploitation of another, somehow actually stood for “liberty and justice for all” at any point in history.

Everyone loves to point to the Nazis as an example of when America fought for “freedom” against this great evil. Where do you think they got their whole playbook from? Hitler’s Nuremberg codes were modeled on America’s one drop rule. The American and German eugenics movements were closely linked. Both Hitler and Teddy Roosevelt shared a favorite author (Madison Grant). James Polk’s pretext for invading Mexico was no different from the one Hitler used to invade Poland. Lebensraum and Manifest Destiny were essentially the same thing. The main difference is that America was infinitely more successful in its genocide of the indigenous peoples of this country.

So I would posit that the younger people just have a clearer understanding of what the flag represents than Boomers who grew up being spoon-fed nationalist myths during the Cold War.
