Medium recommendations are broken
I shouldn’t have to work this hard to find something I want to read on the site
Medium thinks I’m a programmer.
I can’t figure out why. I’ve never read a single article about programming much less clapped for one. I don’t follow any people or publications that focus on the the subject. I don’t care about coding or data science or UX or JavaScript, etc.
Nevertheless, my feed is inundated with articles about stuff that might as well be in another language. For the life of me, I can’t imagine why Medium would think I would be interested in learning to combine “python and d3.js to create dynamic visualization applications” or a story about “Performing ping monitoring between Kubernetes nodes.”
I wish I were a programmer. Maybe then I would have some kind of specific technical suggestions about how to optimize the reflexivity of the recommendation matrix to proactively respond to weighted engagement metrics—or something.
As it stands, I don’t know how to fix the code itself, but I know how it should work. Ideally, when a user reads or claps for stories within certain topics and/or tags, they should start seeing more stories from those topics. It doesn’t seem that complicated.
