So black folks are a monolith? Define “black community.” Is Candace Owens a representative of the “black community”? Jesse Lee Peterson? I mean a former leader of CORE defended Bernard Goetz, but I wouldn’t say “black civil rights leaders” supported racist vigilantes.
You can say maybe that a majority of black voters supported tough on crime policies, but what does that mean? Voter turnout is strongly predicted by income levels. So it would probably be more accurate to say a majority of middle class black homeowners supported these policies.
In any case, what the hell does that have to do with right and wrong? My main critique of Biden is that he’s an opportunist who does what’s good for him politically regardless of whether it’s right. I guarantee you he didn’t have the “black community” in mind when he was attacking Reagan from the right on the drug war. He wasn’t pandering to the “black community” when he bragged that Delaware sided with the Confederacy in the civil war.
He wasn’t thinking of the “black community” in the 70s when he opposed busing and said he didn’t want his kids living in a “racial jungle.”
If anyone is engaging in revisionism it is you.
