The Bible Isn’t Pro-Life
It’s generally not good a good idea to base 21st century policy on a book written thousands of years ago. That said, we do live in a country where one in four people believe the Bible is the literal word of God Almighty. This group comprises a large and powerful voting bloc, so scripture and its interpretation often enter into the discourse. Like the other day, when the Family Research Council got handsomely ratioed on Twitter for referencing the Bible in support of the Supreme Court’s recent abortion ruling.
The fundamentalist evangelical organization — and SPLC-designated hate group — tweeted out the claim that the “Bible is ardently and unequivocally pro-life,” prompting thousands of responses citing evidence to the contrary straight from the Good Book.
There are examples in of God killing children — not fetuses mind you, but actual out-of-the-womb, living, breathing children. One that comes to mind is that time He sent some bears to maul some “young boys” after they taunted his prophet for being bald.
Of course, scholars of Christian apologetics like to “well actually” this particular story, claiming that they were in fact a roving band of teens who were “a serious public danger, quite as grave as the large youth gangs that roam the ghetto sections of our modern American cities.”
