This isn’t really the paradox that the author makes it out to be. He does everything to try to figure out this conundrum — except read Marx.

If he had, then he would expect distrust of the state to increase with belief in socialism. Marx viewed the state as being captured by the ruling class, i.e. a dictatorship of the bourgeoisie.

Government is not inherently good or bad. It is a tool that reflects the interests of those who wield it.

Obviously we don’t plan to trust the present government with carrying out socialized medicine. They would have to be out of office to even put it in effect in the first place.

This is all shallow analysis masquerading as depth and insight.
