Who said I was writing it off? I’m not even contesting that it merits the label “terrorism.” I’m just saying the two aren’t on the same level. I’ll also add that mass murdering ethnic or religious minorities just for being minorities is far worse. You might not agree with it but it’s not exactly a radical or altogether controversial opinion to have. There’s a reason hate crimes are a special class of crime and carry greater penalties. There’s a reason genocide is a special kind of crime against humanity.
That said, it’s also debatable whether he was “left wing” exactly. His two (loose) organizational associations were 1.) The New Black Panther Party and 2.) The Nation of Islam, both of which are on the SPLC HateWatch list for anti-Semitism, homophobia and misogyny. And if you’re denying that the Lecron is right wing because she had “jihadist” affiliations (yes, when I think of leftwing politics, I immediately think “religious fundamentalists who are anti-gay, anti-abortion and misogynist.”) and that her ideology is “batshit crazy,” then you could apply that same reasoning to the Dallas shooter, which would bring your number of examples of bonafide leftwing terrorists to a big fat zero.
But let’s say, for the sake of argument, that the Dallas shooter was both 1.) leftwing and 2.) a terrorist. You’re still far from proving your case that there are “just as many” terrorists on the left side. It’s not even close in terms of number of incidents and bodies piling up. That’s one incident nearly three years ago. Christchurch was weeks ago. Tree of life was about five months ago. Combined that’s about 50 bodies. Oh yeah and literally every extremist murder last year was committed by the right, so there’s that.
