On Saturday, Summer Taylor, 24, succumbed to their injuries at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Taylor was one of two people struck by a car while protesting on I-5 the night before. The other, Diaz Love, sustained serious injuries but is now stable. Though the highway had been closed by the Washington State Patrol for more than an hour, the driver managed to circumvent both the police barricade as well as the line of cars protecting the demonstration before accelerating into the crowd as they attempted to flee to the on-ramp. The pair were hit directly and catapulted into the air by the impact.

Minutes before, the atmosphere had been festive. The protesters had been blowing off steam following a tense incident that had happened earlier that night. A different car — driven by off-duty police officer Molly Clark — had tried to push through as they were marching downtown. Clark called 911 to report an “officer in distress” and several dozen cop cars swarmed. She was interviewed then released.
